Old Green Bean
Far from being one of Bendigo's best kept secrets, you will find Old Green Bean buzzing with conversation & the comforting sounds of the coffee machine brewing constantly, whether it be a busy weekday morning or a laid back Saturday afternoon. It has long been a favourite of Luke's, and I have just discovered its charms relatively recently in comparison.
There is much to love...the plentiful past issues of Frankie magazine, Chris' charming accent & Zoe's vintage dresses...and the light but super tasty nachos for brunch.
Everywhere you turn there are quirky retro touches that give the place a relaxed indie vibe...the re-purposed TV, an owl sketched on the wall...I am in love with the long communal table that was once a door (distressed in a lovely fresh mint green) but sadly I don't think I could squeeze it into my house even if I could talk them into selling it to me! If you're loving Zoe's style, there just so happens to be a large selection of vintage clothes & other things in the back corner that you can browse whilst sipping your coffee...but make sure you don't miss out on a table, and try the corn fritters...definitely worth it.
The menu is fresh and light for the warmer months, and you can mix and match plenty of sides to design the breakfast you've been craving, the corn fritters are deservedly popular. We've gotten into the habit of grabbing a chicken salad to go on busy Saturdays where time seems to escape us...rocket, home made pesto, cashews, chicken, pasta & sundried tomatoes...yum. Don't get me started on the Portuguese Custard Tarts...in fact their whole sweets cabinet is temptation and then some. The corner bench seat by the window with plenty of cushions is just made for good conversation & hot chocolate...and a shared brownie :)
So if you haven't yet been...stop in and check them out...they're sure to become one of your favourites...they are definitely one of ours. 179 Lyttleton Tce, Bendigo.
